Re : New Snowmobile Trail Groomer for Whitecourt

The Whitecourt Trailblazers Snowmobile Club has been planning for the purchase of new grooming equipment for a number of years and we’ve been fiscally responsible, and as such we’ve got an equipment replacement fund with approximately $83,000.00 available to us.

In the spring of 2012, the Club applied for a Community & Facility Enhancement Program Grant (CFEP) from the Province of Alberta. The total cost of the new grooming equipment will be $165,486.00.

The Club is pleased to announce that on September 17, 2012 we received a CFEP grant for $82,743.00 from the Province. The combination of the CFEP Grant and the Club’s equipment replacement fund will enable the Club to purchase this equipment in the next few months so it will be available for use during the upcoming snowmobile season.

The popularity of the Snowmobile Trail System in the Whitecourt area is growing exponentially each year. We are seeing a marked increase in Town and County residents and tourists from outside the area using the snowmobile trails on a regular basis.

The Club currently owns this identical equipment (approximately 11,000 hrs on our current unit). The Club feels at times we have seen some reliability issues and capacity issues given the 465 kms of trails we maintain and the short 10 – 12 week grooming season.

The addition of another groomer will help solve our current issues with reliability and capacity that we are currently having with a single groomer. We anticipate that the newer groomer will handle 70% of the grooming requirements, while the older existing groomer will serve as a back-up during maintenance downtime as well as increasing our grooming capacity during the peak grooming season.

March 28 update

Mar28

Sledding season is nearing the end around Whitecourt.  Eagle River Staging Area is still open as trails are still rideable but snow is melting quickly.  River and creek crossings are very wet and not recommended.  Snow is better as you go north and west of Whitecourt.

March 20 update

Mar20

Some fresh snow north and west of town.  Trails are better as you get away from town.  Use caution on all trails and water crossings.  Groomer may be out as conditions allow.

March 15 update

Mar15

The warm weather has taken a lot of snow away.  Crossing rivers and creeks is not recommended.  Grooming is done for the year and trail pass sales have discontinued.  There is still some snow on trails from Eagle River Staging Area.  Use caution on all trails and ride at your own risk.
