Trail Report for Jan 30/14

WE GOT MORE SNOW!

Not a lot but snow just the same.

Trails are in great shape, and almost all the trails have been groomed within the last 10days.

Eagle river staging area is open and the parking lot is cleared out.

The North trails are open, and almost all the trails have been groomed in the last 10days, with the exception of the Golden Triangle trail North of the Carson Cabin, as well as the Trail from Town to Gundy Cabin. Town to Gundy Cabin is slated to be done on Monday.

Also please note that there will be some logging activity on the Golden Triangle trail by the Blue Ridge haul road but the affect on the trail should be minimal and this is just information to insure that you ride with caution.

The Groat Creek Staging area is open and was plowed out.

The south trails are open and have all been groomed as of today, the Manweiler has had the snowcat down it but without the drag, so it maybe a little bumpy.

Extreme Caution is advised when crossing any waterways including rivers, creeks, ponds and lakes.

Also note that the Whitecourt Town bylaw permits sleds to ride from town to the trail system on designated trails ONLY!!

Trail Report for Jan 23/14

Eagle river staging area is open and the parking lot is cleared out.

The North trails are open, but the North trails have not been groomed since the first week of Jan, as the extreme winds and warm weather have played havoc on trail system. There are lots of trees down on the North and some trails may not be passable. We have hired a slashing crew to help clean trails in the North as there is so much debrey on the trails.

Also please note that there will be some logging activity on the Golden Triangle trail by the Blue Ridge haul road but the affect on the trail should be minimal and this is just information to insure that you ride with caution.

The Groat Creek Staging area is open and was plowed out.

The south trails were cleaned on Saturday except the Manweiler to the river. This should be cleaned this weekend. The trails were then groomed including, from Town to the Summit cabin on the Goodwin lake trail and the Summit trail. Also the trail from the Groat creek staging area to the cabin and from the cabin to the Tom Hill tower road towards Silver Summit were all groomed this week.

Extreme Caution is advised when crossing any waterways including rivers, creeks, ponds and lakes.

Also note that the Whitecourt Town bylaw permits sleds to ride from town to the trail system on designated trails ONLY!!

Trail Report for Jan 16/14

What a week for crazy weather! We have had minus 20, plus 8, 100km/hr winds and rain all in the same week! Welcome to winter in Alberta.

Due to the crazy weather we have not been out grooming since the weekend (warm weather makes form really crappy grooming), and after the windstorm we have reports of trees down yet again.

The Whitecourt Trailblazers are organizing a trail cleaning crew for Saturday Jan 18th, to go and recheck the trails.

Eagle river staging area is open and the parking lot is cleared out.

The North trails are open, and most of the trails that have been groomed. The Golden Triangle is currently unpassable due to blowing snow and drooping trees. It is our goal to have the entire Golden triangle groomed out but Feb 1st.

The Groat Creek Staging area is open and was plowed out.

The south trails were all groomed before Christmas but we have not been out due to mechanical breakdowns and weather related issues.

Extreme Caution is advised when crossing any waterways including rivers, creeks, ponds and lakes.

Also note that the Whitecourt Town bylaw permits sleds to ride from town to the trail system on designated trails ONLY!!

Trail passes

Jan09

Good Morning

As some may have heard through the news and social media, The IGA in Whitecourt, who is a huge supporter of the Whitecourt Trailblazers, has had the roof collapse and is currently closed. The closure will be for what we can assume is the rest of the season. We would like to thank Ken Linford family, and the staff of the IGA for the continued support and for their hard work in this club as well as in the community and we look forward to them reopening when the damages have been repaired.

Going forward trailpasses will be available at First Choice Husky Car Wash on the Hill, RPM Powersports, and Adrenaline Powersports. Also starting this weekend we will have someone at the Staging area to sell passes as well.

WE would like thank the members who have bought passes already for the support, and encourage any that have not yet got a pass to support the club and purchase a trailpass. We realize that we have  had mechanical problems but we are working on them and are looking to have a great season either way. Volunteers spend countless hours each year cleaning trails, chasing down paperwork, installing signs, building and maintaining cabins, outhouses and lookouts.

We are still fighting drooping trees these trees really slow down groomer operations. If you are out and see droopers please cut them if you can it only takes you a second or too, as well if you see a branch in the middle of the trail stop and throw it off to the side, this will make it easier for the groomer drivers and will really speed up operations.

We are still having technical difficulties with the groomers! The North groomer is fighting a electrical gremlin, that we have yet to track down. Prinoth is coming out today with there computer software and technician to see if they can get it running. The South Groomer (newer of the two) had the starter fail on it this week, and of course it is a specific 24v starter and the closest one was in Reno, ya Nevada lol. The starter will be here today and we hope to have the one groomer running today and working ASAP. The plan is to finish filling in creeks and clean the Eagle River staging area parking lot out today, and then move to the South and groom the Summit Loop (Summit Trail and the Goodwin Lake trail) on Friday.

Eagle river staging area is open and the front parking lot was plowed out last week.

The North trails are open, and most of the trails that have been groomed. The Athabasca lookout trail from the Eagle River staging (1) area to the Carson cabin (13), the Gundy trail from the Staging area (1) to the Gundy cabin (44), as well as from the Gundy cabin (44) to the Chickadee burner (41) were all groomed on New Years eve. The Golden Triangle is currently unpassable due to blowing snow and drooping trees. It is our goal to have the entire Golden triangle groomed out but Feb 1st.

The Groat Creek Staging area is open but has not been plowed out, please use caution if you are planning on parking at this staging area before we get it plowed out.

The south trails were all groomed before Christmas including the Goodwin Lake trail and the Summit trail right from town, as well as the Manweiler trail to the river and the Groat Creek staging area (38) to the Summit Cabin (33). These trails have not been groomed since before Christmas but we will be working on getting these trails re-groomed this week.

Extreme Caution is advised when crossing any waterways including rivers, creeks, ponds and lakes.

Also note that the Whitecourt Town bylaw permits sleds to ride from town to the trail system on designated trails ONLY!!
